Product Details

The Cal Mag Switch™ is a new device that allows you to easily switch your fully featured AR between stock operation and a fixed magazine mode for compliance in states like California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Washington State, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Unlike similar but less capable devices, everything here is mounted to the rifle with no extra parts to get lost or misplaced. There are also no extraneous tools or cumbersome motions required to operate it. It is always there and ready to go at the flick of a switch. What’s more, it’s sleek design is entirely contained within the rifle with no odds parts sticking out to get in the way or snag on things.

Switching between modes is a breeze. Simply open the action and flip the switch. When the switch key is engaged with the modified magazine catch provided, you are in fixed magazine mode and legal in restricted states. When it isn’t, you aren’t. Please don’t operate in stock mode while in a restricted state.

The Cal Mag Switch™ is also built tough. It’s all metal construction and welded joints will stand up to thousands and thousands of cycles of operation. Also, an advanced pressure sensitive adhesive from 3M™ is used to mount the switch and this adhesive bond has been rigorously tested both by the manufacturer and ourselves, though an option to do a fully permanent glued in installation is provided. If that isn’t enough, the steel parts that aren’t half hard stainless are Parkerized for long lasting protection from rust. If you break our device through normal use, we will replace it free of charge.

Tax and shipping included in the price listed.

The Cal Mag Switch

Legal

For purposes of this section, ‘fixed magazine’ means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.

CA Code §30515

A ‘fixed’ magazine, according to interpretations of New York law, is a magazine that cannot be readily detached from the firearm without the use of tools or disassembly of the firearm’s action.

The Cal Mag Switch was designed after reviewing competitive devices currently on the market and with California and New York laws in mind, though what follows here is not offered as a legal opinion and was not written by an attorney.

It is our reasonable belief is that this device is compliant in these and other states. This opinion is based on the fact that one has to open up the action on the rifle in order to drop a magazine when in fixed magazine mode. Buyers are cautioned, however, that operating the rifle with the switch in stock mode while in restricted jurisdictions would not be permitted by authorities. It should also be noted that many of the systems currently on the market also allow one to reassemble a rifle in a non-compliant way. Therefore, we see no operational, legal or logical difference between these devices. As with all the devices out there , including this one, it ends up being the responsibly of the operator to use any device in the legally prescribed manner.

One feature that the Cal Mag Switch does have that is only found on one other competing device is the ability to remove the magazine by defeating the mechanism with the use of a tool. This ability is essential for clearing dangerous double feed jams. The ARMagLock has a similarly functioning feature and has been allowed to sell into California and other states for years now. Here is an older post from one of their resellers that explains the situation quite well.

However, with the Cal Mag Switch installed on your rifle, we believe it shows that you have made a good faith effort to comply with the law in your jurisdiction.

That said, there is no approval process at any level of government for these types of devices. Moreover, the laws on the books are not always entirely clear or complete. It can also not be expected that we are familiar with the laws in every possible jurisdiction where this device might be used. Thus, buyers of this device, or any other fixed magazine solution, will need to make up their own mind regarding the legality in their own jurisdictions. However, based on the design and operation of products that have been on the market for years without issue, we have a good faith belief that we are also compliant with fixed magazine laws in restricted states.
